Opaltone: Flexo's seven colour revolution

Page Size: A4

File Size: 829 kb

Extent: 6 pp

Monograph

In this digital age, when it comes to package printing we are still locked into a 19th century system complementing CMYK’s hue and saturation deficiencies with analogue spot colors.

What if we went back to the drawing board and came up with another way “digital” of reproducing color in print which would drastically reduce the need for spot colors (and varying anilox roll volumes) while at the same time expand the color range to satisfy the demanding designers and print buyers.

Sounds obvious enough, so why hasn’t it already been done? It has.

Opaltone - a complete color management, color control system that finally answers a lot of questions and requests for print buyers.

Since the Opaltone presentation at the 2001 FTA Forum in Nashville USA, it has received interest from North America and Europe.

Packaging buyers world wide are already realizing the benefits of Opaltone seven color process which provides a controlled ink set and standard specifications for corporate colors.

This ensures a global match of brand colors.

It does not matter if the packaging is produced in Asia or the USA, the licensed ink set will deliver constant color densities wrld-wide, while the Pre press information is documented within the brand specification.

Buyers not only get better point of sale color appeal, but better global control of the products identity through Opaltone’s color managed ink set.

Cost savings

Based on the assumption that a wide web press is charged out your at $400 per hour.

With the implementation of Opaltone inks (on one press alone) a printer could conservatively save $360,000 annually simply by reducing 50% of his spot color wash-ups.
