SWITZERLAND - Tetra Pak has launched what it claims to be an ‘industry first’ carton’ that will extend low-cost openings into new beverage categories - its new redeveloped Tetra Brik Aseptic Edge 1000.
To keep afloat in today’s highly competitive markets, beverage producers need top-of-the-line packaging coupled with the latest technologies to be able to deliver what the consumers need.
With a new look, improved functionality, lower cost and better environmental profile, Tetra Pak says its one-litre Tetra Brik Aseptic Edge 1000 carton is an ideal solution for long-life beverage producers of shelf-life milks, vitamin-enriched milks, Omega-3 milks and flavoured milks, as well as juices, nectars, still drinks and wines.
The new carton features a 30mm opening for consumer convenience, and a more visible sloping top panel that offers brand owners ample prominent printing space to promote products.
“With five visible printing surfaces and a square bottom format, there’s a greater possibility that a brand is facing out towards the consumer on the shelf,” said Tetra Pak in a statement.
Besides the additional promotion option, the sloping top also allows consumers easier access to the cap, and takes away the need to hold the package up that high to use. The sloping top also improves airflow, making pouring less jerky.
The highlight, though, of the new Tetra Brik Aseptic Edge 1000 is the way the opening size can be maximized while cutting raw material use.
This is done by moulding the base of the neck as flat as possible to the underside of the packaging material – something Tetra Pak says was only previously applicable for white milk products using direct injection moulding concept (DIMC).
“In an industry first combination of DIMC and pre-laminated hole (PLH) technologies, however, Tetra Pak has made this very low-cost closure technology available to a much broader range of product categories for ambient distribution,” the company said.
In addition, the new carton takes up less warehouse space and also saves on fuel costs as more cartons can be fitted onto lorries for delivery – 750 units of the new package can be fitted onto a euro pallet compared to 720 in the case of the earlier Tetra Brik Aseptic carton with a SlimCap closure.
The one-litre carton will be globally available from spring 2012.
The Tetra Brik Aseptic Edge 1000 is available using Tetra Pak A3/Flex iLine solutions with a DIMC applicator incorporated in the filling machine, delivering 8,000 packages per hour and selectable capacity. This allows producers to continue using existing processing and secondary packaging equipment.
