CANADA – The Canadian government has introduced a new guideline on labelling of halal food products which require that halal claims on food labels, packaging or advertising materials must include the entire name of the certifying body or person, to be enforced in April 2016.
SOUTH KOREA – The Korea Trade Commission has recommended imposing anti-dumping tariffs on oriented polypropylene (OPP) films from China, Indonesia and Thailand over the next five years.
INDIA – The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is strictly implementing its labelling regulations for all packaged foods from domestic suppliers and importers, even as imported packaged foods continue to lie in Indian ports and airports.
INDONESIA – As Indonesia presses on with its new rule that requires tin to be traded on a local exchange before export, local tin smelters not yet in compliance have started to furlough staff.
INDIA – The European Union (EU) is seeking clarification about India’s implementation of packaging standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act, after about 200 tonnes of imported food items were blocked.
