Tesco Lotus CEO appointed to new role in Tesco UK

THAILAND – Tesco Lotus CEO Chris Bush is taking up the new role of COO of the Tesco business in the UK, effective 27 February 2012.
His replacement is John Christie, most recently the CEO of Tesco in Slovakia, and the previous CEO of the British retailer’s Japanese operations.
John ChristieTesco has given no reason for the change in roles.
Under Bush’s tenure, Tesco Lotus has grown and now operates 782 stores with 11 million square feet of space, having added a further 119 stores in the past year. In 2011, sales in Thailand grew 21%.
New initiatives implemented by Bush in Thailand include the launch of the Tesco Extra retail format, the introduction of the Green Line and the opening of Thailand’s and Asia’s first zero carbon Tesco store.
“Whilst I will of course be sad to leave the country, the strength of this team, coupled with the fact that John brings with him an immense amount of talent, energy and many years’ experience, means I depart confident in Tesco Lotus’ future, said Bush.
