JAPAN/AUSTRALIA – Asahi Group Holdings has completed its acquisition of all issued shares of Australian bottled water company Mountain H2O Pty Ltd.
The deal, which was first announced on 30 November 2011, will enable the Japanese brewer’s local unit Asahi Holdings (Australia) Pty Ltd (AHA) to secure a stable supply of spring water in the growing bottled water market in Australia.
Mountain H2O’s high manufacturing capability will also enable AHA to provide high quality spring water products, and help AHA accelerate the streamlining of its Australian beverage business.
Established in 2000, Mountain H2O’s main business is bottling private label products for grocery customers, using its in-house PET blow moulding bottle technology.
For the financial year of 2011 ending June, the Australian company gained US$32.3 million (A$31.4 million) in sales.
Asahi’s purchase cost of this latest acquisition was not disclosed.
Asahi has been on an aggressive acquisition conquest to gain wider margins in overseas markets as the domestic demand continues to stagnate.
As recent as December 2011, Asahi president Naoki Izumiya disclosed that the company is targeting new acquisitions in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.
“We already know the targets,” he said.
