| Eco matters to dominate Korean packaging industry in end-May |

S KOREA - Environmental issues pertaining to the packaging industry will take centre stage at Korea Pack 2008, with conferences and seminars running concurrently alongside the exhibition. Discussion on a set of Asian standards for environmentally conscious packaging will also take place during the exhibition. With the exhibition theme “Future, Environment, and Good Packaging”, Korea Pack 2008, taking place from 27-30 May 2008, at KINTEX, Goyang, South Korea, aims to reflect the global packaging industry’s current concerns over the environment. Some of the events pertaining to eco-friendly packaging featured at the exhibition include: 1. ISO Preparatory Meeting for Environment-Conscious Packaging Organised by the Korea Packaging Centre (KPC) of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology and the Japan Packaging Institute (JPI), delegates from the 14-member countries of the Asian Packaging Federation (APF) will discuss a proposal put forward by JPI for the formation of an Asian standard for eco-friendly packaging. 2. International Eco-friendly Packaging Conference (IEPC) In a move to raise greater awareness internationally for eco-friendly packaging, this conference, organized by KPC and the Korean Standards Association, will discuss current trends in the green movement as well as attempt to predict the future impact on the global packaging industry. 3. Environment Logistics Packaging Seminar
Recent trends in packaging development, particularly with regard to the
environment and logistics, will be discussed at this seminar organized
by the Korea Packaging Resources & Recirculation Technology
Institute and the Korea Association of Professional Packaging Engineers. The 13th Korea International Packaging Exhibition – Korea Pack 2008, happening from 27-30 May 2008, will present packaging technologies from 650 companies from 30 countries at KINTEX in Goyang, Korea. The largest yet with 1,700 booths, the exhibition will run concurrently with the Cosmetic & Pharmaceutical Industry Exhibition (COPHEX), Laboratory & Analytical Equipment Exhibition (KOREA LAB), and the Korea Food Manufacturing & Processing Exhibition (KOREA FOODMA 2008). Special pavilions will also be set up showcasing corrugated cardboard packaging (by Korea Corrugated Cardboard Packaging Case Industry Association), Good Packaging in Korea (by Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Packaging Center), and Good Packaging Design (by Korea Package Design Association). Korea Pack 2008 is organized by Korea Packaging Machinery Association, Korea Packaging Association Inc., Korea Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, Korea Cosmetic Association, The Monthly Packaging, Science 21 Co., Ltd., and Kyungyon Exhibition Corp.
