THAILAND - Sealed Air, a global manufacturer of a wide range of fresh and processed food, protective and specialty packaging products, is exhibiting at Propak Asia 2007, held in BITEC, Bangkok, Thailand, from 13 – 16 June.

Sealed Air is showcasing two main product lines at Propak Asia this week – Cryovac for food packaging, and Sealed Air for protective packaging for non-food items.

One of the equipments Sealed Air is exhibiting is the Supra, a thermoforming machine which can handle both flexible and rigid packaging for food, non-food and medical products. Constructed of stainless steel and corrosion resistant materials, the Supra only requires minimum maintenance and is suitable for applications that require larger product dimensions in relation to film advance, film width and package depth.

sealedairb.jpg The Supra comes in three basic machine structures – 3,600mm, 4,500mm and 5,400mm. Its touch-screen control panel comes in a number of languages, making it especially ideal for the Asian market with its many languages.

Some of the Supra’s other features include:

  • Quick size change
  • Programmable advance speed
  • IP65 level of protection
  • Modular construction
  • Safety standards according to ‘EC’ regulations.

Cryovac – Sealed Air’s food packaging product range

The Cryovac division of Sealed Air develops packaging systems and materials that help make safe and efficient distribution possible for perishable food products in the supermarket, food processing and food service industries. Cryovac also markets high-performance materials for a variety of demanding applications in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.

Worldwide, Cryovac makes up 62% of all sales. Cryovac also contributes an average of 40% of Thai sales, while the protective packaging division makes up the remaining 60%. This is split fairly equally in the South East Asian region on the whole, where Sealed Air is performing well in countries such as Indonesia and Philippines.

Nath Suntornpong, Marketing Manager – South East Asia, Sealed Air Cryovac Food Packaging Division, spoke to PackWebasia.com on Cryovac’s performance in South East Asia.sealedairc.jpg “On the whole, we have been doing very well in the region. The economy has fully recovered after the 1997 Asian financial crisis and exports especially have been increasing as the various industries ship their products out to the West and neighboring countries.”

He also highlighted Vietnam’s performance and said, “We are growing very fast in that country. Although we do not have an office in Vietnam, we have a good distributor who has helped us achieve sales which is more than double that of Singapore’s sales.”

Sealed Air’s Thai office entered the industrial packaging sector in Vietnam just last year. Its Cryovac range of equipment has been marketed through its distributor in Vietnam for more then seven years now.

Sealed Air Thailand’s sales grew by more than 20% per year for the past three years. Suntornpong explained, “This is mainly due to high growth experienced by the Thai export market. The food export sector, especially, has been performing very well despite problems Thailand had faced in the past few years with, for example, the bird flu outbreak.”

Sealed Air has offices in more than 50 countries and more than 100 factories worldwide. Its Thai office was opened 18 years ago and functions as the South East Asian headquarters, serving a wide range of customers which include exporters and companies selling into domestic markets. It has a factory located 15 kilometres north of Bangkok in the district of Rangsit, Phatumthani.
